THE BIBLE!
The Bible is kind of important to Roman Catholics !!
Religion class started the year with an introduction to the Bible. This included a short presentation and discussion about its beginnings. Who wrote it? When? How many books are in the old and new testaments? Who actually decided what to put in the Bible? How do I find a chapter and verse?
Throughout the year, we will be studying the Gospel of Matthew. So far, we have read about "The Ancestors of Jesus Christ". A lot of ancient names in this story ... Abraham, King David, Solomom, Jehoshaphat, Hezzekiah, Zerubbabel, and Joseph.
We also read and discussed "The Birth of Jesus Christ", which was much easier to follow. Joseph sure was an understanding and faithful man. Next came the "Visitors from the East". Herod certainly was nervous about the arrival of a new king. And just what is myrrh anyway? Students should know this now. In "Escape to Egypt" and "The Return from Egypt", we once again saw how Joseph took care of his family and our Savior.

This is our textbook for the year. Here is a link to their website:
Blest Are We Link
Unit 1, "The Sacraments: God's Gifts of Life", covers creation, the Sacraments, the Beatitudes, and Sacramentals. The remainder of the book focuses more closely on the individual Sacraments, for example, Unit 2 is titled "Baptism and Confirmation". Unit 3 presents "The Eucharist", while Unit 4 guides study and discussion on "Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick". The book also has special sections on "Feasts and Seasons" and "Our Catholic Heritage".
