May 9th-No homework.  We have been spending the week on study skills to help with next year.  I have showed and your child has practiced arranging notes in different formats.  We have made formal outlines, placed information in chronological order, made topic graphs, and summarized after finding facts.  I have sent the papers home with the students so they can have a reference. The main focus has been on pulling the facts out of an article and rearranging them in a format that makes sense to the student. This method helps put the information into our brain filing cabinets that make it easier to recall.  I had the students do this with several paragraphs and then quizzed them after their lesson.  They almost all knew all the answers with only about 20 minutes of reorganizing the material. I am hoping they carry this practice into their future studies.

May 14-18th-no homework.  We are reading novels as a group and having a period of silent sustained reading each day.  Some students are reading their summer reading books and some have another novel.
