Welcome to Mrs. Kershaw's Construction Site!

Valentine party UPDATE: WOW! What a fun party. We had so much yummy food! What a great snack for the afternoon. And thanks to the moms & dad that stayed to help: Tara O'Keefe, Carole Krajca, John Conlin, Georgia, LaCombe, Heather Brown - couldn't have done it without you. And thanks to the moms above who brought the food. We have cookies left over for snacks all week!

Happy New Year!
Can you believe it is 2012? Wow! I wish everyone a blessed year!
As we start our new year, please look over uniforms. Make sure that shoes still fit comfortably, pants and skirts are not too short, and other pieces of the uniform are ready for another semester. The school offers a resale store at least once a month. Check the school calendar for these dates. A few reminders:
- belts must be worn with girls' pants and boys' shorts & pants.
- socks need to be above the ankle - crew socks are best choices or higher ankle socks. No hidden socks that do not cover the ankle.
- no earring may be dangling - only small earring that are on the earlobe (girls ;-)
- sweatshirts are supposed to be the new one from this year: has the school crest.
- coats may not be worn in the classroom - only sweaters and sweatshirts. Coats are taken to lunch for outside recess.

Also: I will be sending home e-mails if school supplies need to be replaced. The supplies we provide at the beginning of the year are a starter supply not meaning to last the full year. Try-rex pencils may be purchased in the office ($0.50). Other pencils are okay but the try-rex stay sharp longer - all students need to have 2-3 long, sharp pencils for the day. Sharpening is allowed at the beginning of the day and at handwriting time. Pencil top erasers are a good alternative to pink erasers.
Welcome to my website. I hope this site will provide you with the information you need to help us together teach your first grader. I will do my best to keep information up to date with homeroom news, Reading class information and all other tidbits you need to know. Please e-mail me with any questions that you can't find answers to. That way I will know what to add to make this a better resource for you to use.
Remember, we are together "building" a wonderful first grader – “construction in progress!”
Mrs. Kershaw
Crew Chief
A brief bio of Mrs. Kershaw: After growing up in Missouri I came to Texas to attend TCU - and never left this great state. I received a Bacholor's degree in Education from TCU with an emphasis in early childhood education and Spanish. I also have been trained in Gifted and Talented and have a great love for Math & Science. I taught for seven years in local public schools before having my first child, Kristine (who is now 10 and in 5th grade). Then our second child came along, Kurt, who is 6 and in the first grade. While staying home and not working fulltime, I taught preschool at a small Methodist preschool in Benbrook. Once my "baby" was in kindergarten I was ready to get back to full time teaching. Both of my children are at St. Andrew Catholic and I am so fortunate to be here, too!
Building the future together - but we're always "under construction"!
