Our math club started during the 2015-2016 school year, so it is a relatively new program for Saint Andrew. Our club is part of the MathCounts Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that strives to engage middle school students of all ability and interest levels in fun, challenging math programs, in order to expand their academic and professional opportunities.
The club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. There are three main activities of the club:
National Math Club - We inspire curiosity and build confidence in students of all levels. We help create a space where learning math is fun, social and supportive, so that every student becomes a lifelong math learner.
Math Video Challenge - We engage students in project-based learning that is innovative and creative. By having student teams create their own math teaching videos, we enable students to connect and apply math to their own lives, and teach others in the process.
MATHCOUNTS Competition Series - We cultivate talent in the nation's brightest young minds. We bring together students from all 50 states in a series of in-person contests - the only competition program of its kind.
In the inaugural year of the Saint Andrew MathCounts Club, our competition team placed 4th in a tournament against teams from schools in the Fort Worth area. This enabled them to move on to compete at the state level. While the team didn't place at state, they had a great showing and are looking forward to a repeat trip to the state competition.
